چکیده

Th is paper is concerned w i th the problem of dete rmin ing the indirect effects or ramifications of actions. We argue that the standard framework in which background knowledge is given in the fo rm of state constraints is inadequate and that background knowledge should instead be given in the fo rm of "causal laws." We represent "causal laws" f irst as inference rules and later as sentences in a moda l , condi t ional logic G f la tFor the f ramework w i t h "causal laws," we propose a simple f ixpoint condi t ion defining the possible next states after per forming an act ion. Th is f ixpo in t condi t ion guarantees min ima l change between states, but also enforces the requirement tha t changes be "caused." Ramif icat ion and qual i f icat ion constraints can be expressed as "causal laws."

Nonmonotonic Causal Logic

can be understood to describe everything caused in a world such as I (according to T ). The models of causal theory T are those interpretations for which what is true is exactly what is caused: that is, the interpretations I such that I is the unique model of T I . This fixpoint condition makes the logic nonmonotonic; adding causal rules to T may produce new models. Causal theories allow for co...

Intrahepatic ramifications of the portal vein in the horse

The ramifications of the portal vein in the liver of horses were studied by using corrosion casting and gross dissection. The portal vein in the horse supplies the hepatic lobes by six major branches. The right lobe is supplied by three main branches, namely the dorsal diaphragmatic, the right caudodorsal and the right intermediate branches. The left branch supplies the left lateral and medial ...

Ramifications: An Extension and Correspondence Result for the Event Calculus

Classical logic Event Calculus, and the special purpose logical action language E, are both well established formalisms for describing actions and change. However, there is yet to be an account of ramifications in Event Calculus sufficiently general to represent the classes of domains expressible in E. Indeed, an adequately general ramification theory constructed in any general purpose logical ...
